About Sweat Running

We are pleased to introduce Sweat Running with Eddie Sturla , 4 x Ironman Brazil champion, swim, bike run and triathlon coach. As well as being a pro triathlete having competed at international level for more than 20 years, Eddie is a qualified PE teacher.

Watch the video below to learn about Sweat Running and to find out more about Eddie and his coaching philosophy.

Eddie Sturla is 4 x Ironman Brazil Champion. Swim, bike, run and triathlon coach.

At Sweat Gym, we love to run.

Some of us train hard with our sights set on a podium finish. Some train just to stay in shape. We all train because we love the comradery of a supportive group of like minded people.

As a professional triathlete, Eddie learnt what it takes to compete at world championship level. These days, Eddie uses his knowledge of running and training to help everyone in the team to be the best they possibly can.

Sweat runners are of all abilities and experience levels. We have members who train a couple of times a week to get back in shape after some time off. We have athletes training for a personal best in the next local fun run, we have age groupers striving to qualify for the next world championship.

We meet at Sweat, Armstrong St Middle Park. We use the gym for strength, core and injury prevention. We run at Albert Park Lake, along the sea shore and at Olympic Park track.

We are a friendly and welcoming group so throw on your training clothes and come on down and run with us. Contact us at the gym by email or phone (9682 8998) if you would like more information.

What does it cost?

For maximum benefits, you should aim to attend as many sessions as you can. Depending on your current fitness level and your overall aim, it would be essential for you to attend at least two sessions every week.

The group works in four week blocks costing $120 each. At the end of 2-3 blocks, it is hoped you will compete in a selected fun run. At the time of writing, we are working towards the Sandy Point 5, 10 and half, then the Melbourne Marathon 5, 10, half or full.

What are my goals?

During the first week, think about your goals and talk to Eddie about the times and distances you will like to complete. Throughout the coming weeks, it will be our intention to help your reach your goals and beyond.

What if I am injured?

Our aim is not to re-injure you, and with the right guidance, it is often possible to gently train through a particular injury. Please let Eddie know if you have any injury or feeling unwell prior to commencing each training session.

Where do we meet?

On Sunday and Fridays we meet at Sweat, 1 Armstrong St Middle Park. Car keys, etc can be left at the gym. On Tuesday's we meet at Olympic Park run track, Next to the old Olympic pool, across the road from Vodafone Stadium.

What will we do in each session?

Sunday and Friday sessions will involve some gym work, and a structured run along the coast or Albert Park Lake, followed by stretching. Tuesday sessions are intervals of the precise intensity to optimize your training.

Water

It is important that you hydrate before and after you run. In order to guarantee that this is done, please drink some water before we begin and arrive at each session with a full water bottle. It will not be necessary or advisable to purchase any sports drink for a run which is less than 60 minutes in duration. If however, you have experienced dizziness or lack of energy from exercising first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, it may be necessary to consume a very light snack before you begin. We suggest a very ripe banana, some fresh juice or some orange or other preferred fruit.
